Real Madrid have completed the signing of Ivory Coast international Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in a deal that could rise to £120m (140m euros), making the 19-year-old winger one of the most expensive teenage signings in football history.
Diomande has put pen to paper on a seven-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the fee potentially eclipsing the £115m (133.9m euros) Real Madrid paid Borussia Dortmund for Jude Bellingham back in June 2023.
The move brings to an end a competitive chase for the young forward's signature. Paris St-Germain had emerged as favourites to secure his services but withdrew from the race on Sunday after seeing a £102.5m offer turned down. Liverpool had also shown interest earlier in the year, with an initial £69m bid rejected in June as the Merseyside club continue searching for a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, who departed the club.
Diomande becomes Real Madrid's sixth new arrival of the summer under head coach Jose Mourinho, joining a squad already strengthened by the additions of Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Carlos Espi.
The teenager enjoyed a breakout campaign in Germany, being named the Bundesliga's Young Player of the Season for 2025-26 after netting 12 goals and supplying eight assists in league action. Across all competitions with Leipzig, his numbers were even more striking — 13 goals and 10 assists in his first full European season. He also featured in every one of Ivory Coast's matches at the World Cup, where his side were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Norway.
Diomande's journey to the top of European football has taken him through several countries. Born in Ivory Coast, he first moved to the United States to join an academy before making the switch to Spanish football with Leganes in 2025. His stay there was brief, as he moved on to Leipzig later that year, where his rapid development caught the attention of Europe's biggest clubs.
Real Madrid's willingness to pay such a substantial fee underlines their long-term strategy of recruiting elite young talent before it reaches full maturity. Diomande has quickly established himself as one of the most sought-after prospects in the game, prized for his explosive acceleration, close control and directness in the final third.
A key asset in his game is his adaptability. Equally effective on either flank, Diomande can drift inside from the left onto his stronger right foot to threaten the goal directly, or use his speed and delivery from the right to set up teammates. That versatility was seen as a major factor in Real Madrid's pursuit, given the club's search for greater stability on the right side of their attack.
At Leipzig, Diomande built an effective partnership down the right with full-back Ridle Baku, and Real Madrid will be hoping he can replicate that chemistry in the Spanish capital. With experienced attacking full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Marc Cucurella now in the squad, the Ivorian winger will have plenty of creative support to work with as he begins life at the Bernabeu.
The scale of the investment signals just how highly Real Madrid's hierarchy rate Diomande's ceiling, viewing him as a potential cornerstone of the team for years to come as Mourinho reshapes the squad this summer.
