With the transfer window edging towards its September 1 close, Premier League clubs are scrambling to complete late business, with Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City all working on multiple deals over the weekend.
Arsenal have opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a move for England defender Jarell Quansah, whose ability to play both centre-back and right-back appeals to manager Mikel Arteta following William Saliba's injury. The Gunners are also reportedly weighing up a shock approach for Brighton midfielder Jack Hinshelwood, valued at around £43m to £50m depending on add-ons, while continuing to be linked with Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa, Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen and Manchester City's Julian Alvarez. Complicating any deal for Osimhen is the fact that Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli has turned down the chance to move to Turkey as part of a potential swap arrangement.
Arteta has also conceded that youngster Ethan Nwaneri may need to leave the club to secure the regular first-team football required for his development, though a move for Myles Lewis-Skelly to either Chelsea or Manchester United is considered unlikely at this stage.
At Tottenham, Roberto De Zerbi is pushing for a busy conclusion to the window. Spurs have reportedly agreed personal terms with Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, though Liverpool have stated they will not sanction his departure without bringing in a replacement first, with Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain among the options being considered by Andoni Iraola's side. Tottenham are also closing in on a deal worth around £65m plus add-ons for Manchester City winger Savinho, and have opened talks over a move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, who is expected to leave Stamford Bridge again this summer despite Chelsea holding out for £60m. Spurs have already made six signings this window at a cost in excess of £230m, and confirmed the sale of captain Cristian Romero to Atletico Madrid for £34.2m on a five-year deal.
Manchester City are working on multiple fronts as they push to complete the signing of Lille teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi for around £85m, a deal confirmed as ongoing by Lille boss Davide Ancelotti. City are also exploring a move for Enzo Fernandez after failing to meet Chelsea's Friday deadline with an acceptable bid, though the west London club expect the Argentine — who was booed by Chelsea supporters on his return to Stamford Bridge — to stay beyond deadline day. Barcelona have meanwhile lodged a third bid worth around £60m for Rodri, still some way short of City's valuation of the reigning Ballon d'Or winner. City are also poised to sell Tijjani Reijnders to Saudi club Al Qadsiah for a fee in the region of £51m-£55m, only a year after signing the Dutchman from AC Milan for £45m.
Elsewhere, new City boss Enzo Maresca has indicated that Ruben Dias is the leading candidate to become his club captain following Bernardo Silva's departure to Real Madrid, explaining that Erling Haaland's habit of celebrating goals makes him less suited to a role that requires calling tactical instructions from the touchline.
