Arsenal Fight Back to Sink Leeds and End Their Unbeaten Run

By LiveScore365 Newsroom · Premier League Arsenal FC

Arsenal produced a late surge to overturn a half-time deficit and beat Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium, a result that ended the visitors' unbeaten start to the Premier League season and lifted the champions level on points with Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta's side were far from their fluent best for long periods but showed the character of a team capable of grinding out results even when not firing on all cylinders. The win also marked a notable selection milestone, with Arteta fielding six English players in his starting XI for the first time since 1999.

Leeds, unbeaten going into the contest and managed by Daniel Farke, kept faith with the same lineup used in their previous three matches. The early stages offered few clear openings, though Leeds looked the sharper side on the counter, catching Arsenal's defence out with quick transitions down the flanks.

Jayden Bogle twice went close before the break, first seeing an effort blocked by Anton Stach after a Gabriel Gudmundsson delivery, then firing narrowly wide after collecting a loose ball from an Ao Tanaka cross. David Raya was called into action again moments before half-time, using a strong save to deny Gudmundsson from close range.

At the other end, Arsenal's best chance of the opening period fell to Kai Havertz, who headed a Noni Madueke cross straight at goalkeeper James Trafford from eight yards when well placed to score. Madueke, one of four changes made by Arteta, had been enjoying success down the left against James Justin but found his teammates unable to capitalise.

Leeds continued to assert themselves after the restart, dominating midfield exchanges and exploiting space in behind Arsenal's full-backs. Justin and Tanaka both tested Raya from distance before the visitors broke through in the 55th minute. Gudmundsson surged past Ben White and whipped in a low cross that Raya could not intercept, allowing an unmarked Justin to fire home from close range.

Leeds nearly doubled their advantage soon after when Noah Okafor narrowly failed to connect with another dangerous Bogle delivery, but the hosts responded swiftly. In the 62nd minute, Madueke's deep cross was headed back across goal by White, and Riccardo Calafiori reacted first to bundle the ball in from close range for his second Premier League goal of the campaign.

With Arsenal needing a spark, Arteta turned to his bench, introducing Bruno Guimarães, Viktor Gyokeres and Jurrien Timber in a triple substitution. The change paid dividends almost immediately. Guimarães, signed from Newcastle for £75million, injected urgency and aggression into Arsenal's play, snapping into challenges and demanding faster tempo from his teammates.

Just nine minutes after replacing Mikel Merino, Guimarães struck the winner. The move began down the left as Bukayo Saka combined with Martin Odegaard, whose pass found Declan Rice advancing into the box. Rice's first-time flick set up Guimarães, who finished calmly into the corner for his second goal since arriving at the club.

Arsenal had further opportunities to extend their lead, with Odegaard and Saka both missing presentable chances late on, but the result was never seriously in doubt once Guimarães had turned the game in the champions' favor.

The victory leaves Arsenal trailing Manchester City only on goal difference at the top of the table, while Leeds will be left to reflect on a missed opportunity after dominating long stretches of the contest without reward.
