Solanke's Late Header Rescues Point for Spurs at Old Trafford Despite Bentancur Red Card

By LiveScore365 Newsroom · Manchester United

Dominic Solanke's stoppage-time header earned Tottenham a dramatic 1-1 draw away to Manchester United, though the result did little to end Spurs' frustrating start to the season as they remain without a win.

With the match deep into added time, Sandro Tonali swung in an inviting cross that Solanke met with a firm header, capitalising on a mistake by United goalkeeper Lammens to steal a point for the visitors in dramatic fashion.

Spurs had started the contest brightly, swarming forward and putting United on the back foot in the opening exchanges. Marcos Senesi, deputising for Micky van de Ven, looked composed throughout the first half, using quick and direct passing to help his side maintain territorial dominance while United struggled to create anything of note.

Lucas Bergvall was a driving force in midfield, constantly alert to loose balls and instrumental in setting up good opportunities, including one that fell to Solanke after Bergvall won possession near the edge of United's box. Tonali, meanwhile, delivered arguably his best performance since his costly summer move, culminating in the assist for the equaliser.

On the flanks, Destiny Udogie combined effectively with Savio, with the Brazilian winger causing problems throughout despite struggling at times to convert promising positions into clear-cut chances. Mohammed Kudus, making his first league start since January, impressed with his directness and physicality but was left to rue a missed opportunity in the first half after being found unmarked by Savio's cutback.

Despite the positive attacking play, United struck first through a neat move down Spurs' right flank that exploited space in behind Archie Gray, with Bryan Mbeumo among those causing problems for the visitors. Jan Paul van Hecke, whose aggressive and progressive style had helped Spurs dominate early exchanges, was caught square for the opener, though his line-breaking passing had earlier stretched United's defence.

The game took a significant turn when substitute Rodrigo Bentancur was shown a red card after an altercation with Luke Shaw, with the Uruguayan midfielder reacting to a shove by making contact with his head. The dismissal left Spurs to see out the remainder of the match a man down, adding further jeopardy to their pursuit of a result.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi turned to his bench to shore things up, with the introductions of James Maddison and Van de Ven helping Spurs regain composure and control as the match entered its final stages. Maddison's presence was particularly notable in allowing the team to steady themselves and ultimately find the energy to push for an equaliser despite playing with ten men.

Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who had been largely untroubled for long periods, produced a smart save to deny Mbeumo in the first half and was given no chance for United's goal.

The late leveller means Tottenham avoid defeat at Old Trafford, but their winless run in the league continues as they search for their first victory of the campaign. The red card for Bentancur will also be a concern for De Zerbi heading into upcoming fixtures, with the Italian coach having previously placed significant faith in the midfielder.
