Chelsea Fly Out of the Blocks Against Bournemouth as Premier League Returns

By LiveScore365 Newsroom · Premier League Manchester City

The Premier League resumed after the international break with a flurry of action across four simultaneous 3pm kick-offs, headlined by a blistering start from Chelsea against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca's side wasted no time asserting themselves, racing into a two-goal lead inside the opening ten minutes. Jordan Henderson opened the scoring with his first goal for the club after just a minute, latching onto a pullback from Cole Palmer following a surging run into the box. The lead was doubled soon after when Morgan Rogers' delivery was turned into his own net by Bournemouth's Marcos Silva, though confusion briefly reigned as officials checked for offside before confirming the goal.

Bournemouth steadied somewhat as the half wore on, with David Brooks and company finding more of the ball, but they struggled to trouble Chelsea's defence meaningfully. Djordje Petrovic did well to deny Henderson a quick second, while at the other end a David Christie penalty appeal from a corner was waved away. Palmer, who earlier in the day signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge running until 2034, was at the heart of everything positive for the hosts.

Speaking after putting pen to paper on his new deal, Palmer said: "Chelsea means a lot to me and I think the club is going in the right direction, so I'm delighted to sign and I'm obviously very happy. Speaking to the owners, to the sporting directors and obviously the manager, they gave me a lot of confidence so it was only right to sign. Speaking to players as well, everyone has the same ambitions. I feel like we win major trophies here consistently and I want to be a part of that and play a big role in it too."

Elsewhere, Aston Villa and Brentford produced an entertaining start at Villa Park. The visitors, who have now scored first in every league fixture this season, took the lead through Yehor Yarmolyuk in the tenth minute. Villa responded almost immediately, with Nicolas Jackson restoring parity with a right-footed finish just two minutes later for his first home goal of the campaign, leaving the match level at 1-1.

At Portman Road, Ipswich Town and Fulham could not find a breakthrough in the early stages, with Jay Enciso seeing an effort saved as the hosts looked the more threatening side without converting their chances. Sunderland and Brighton also remained goalless, though home goalkeeper Anthony Patterson's deputy Robin Roefs was called into action with a fine save as the Seagulls looked sharper after returning from international duty.

Away from the Premier League, La Liga action was disrupted when Rayo Vallecano's match against Athletic Bilbao was suspended after supporters threw paper airplanes and other objects onto the pitch in protest against club president Raúl Martín Presa. The disturbance began in the 13th minute, with officials halting play after fans continued their demonstration despite warnings, chanting against the ownership before players left the field.

In international news, Cristiano Ronaldo has been provisionally suspended by the Portuguese football federation, which has opened disciplinary proceedings following his decision to walk out on the national team. Ronaldo apologised to supporters and was critical of head coach Jorge Jesus, stating he would accept any punishment handed down.

Earlier in the day, Arsenal secured a dramatic comeback victory over Leeds at the Emirates Stadium, while attention also turned to Manchester City, who played their first match since being found guilty of Premier League financial breaches, a verdict the club continues to dispute through an ongoing appeal.
