Maresca Confirms Haaland Fit and Ready for Liverpool Test at Anfield

By LiveScore365 Newsroom · Premier League Liverpool

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has given a positive update on Erling Haaland ahead of his side's trip to Anfield, easing any fears over the striker's fitness before a crucial Premier League clash with Liverpool.

Haaland has been in blistering form this season, starting all five of City's league fixtures and finding the net five times, including crucial winning goals against Coventry and Manchester United. The Norwegian has also built a strong record against Liverpool specifically, having scored in all three meetings between the two sides last campaign. One of those strikes came in dramatic fashion at Anfield in February, when he converted a stoppage-time penalty to complete a come-from-behind victory for City.

With City chasing only their fourth league win at Anfield since 1981, Haaland's involvement is seen as pivotal. Speaking at Friday's pre-match press conference, Maresca addressed questions about the forward's condition following the international break.

"He's good. He went to Marbella, had two or three days off, played golf. Had some recovery," Maresca said. "He's ready for Anfield. He's good, the players are thinking: international teams, some days off and go again. He was good."

The update will come as a relief to City supporters, given Haaland's importance to the team's attacking output this season and his history of delivering decisive moments against Liverpool.

Beyond the fitness update, Maresca also addressed the broader challenge of visiting Anfield, acknowledging the intensity of the atmosphere his players will face. The Italian coach suggested the current circumstances surrounding the club could make the occasion even more charged than usual, though he expressed confidence his squad possesses the composure needed to handle it.

"It will be a tough game for sure, tough test. We need to be ready," Maresca explained. "The focus has to be the game, but we know the environment in Anfield is nice. It will probably be even worse because of the situation."

Despite recognizing the difficulty of the task, Maresca was adamant that his players will not shy away from the challenge, pointing to the experience within his squad of performing under similarly pressurized conditions.

"It will be our duty to do our best and win the game," he continued. "Absolutely we can face the pressure. We have players who played in a similar situation. Enzo Fernandez played in Argentina, it's always every game like going to Anfield. It's not a problem."

The reference to Fernandez, who experienced fierce, high-stakes atmospheres during his career in Argentine football, was used by Maresca to illustrate that several members of his squad are no strangers to hostile away environments and intense rivalries.

City's upcoming visit to Anfield represents one of the most eagerly anticipated fixtures of the early Premier League season, with both clubs expected to be in contention at the top of the table. A victory for City would not only extend their rare recent success at the venue but also deliver an early psychological blow to Liverpool in the title race.

With Haaland confirmed fit and sharp after his short break in Marbella, City will be hoping their talisman can again produce a decisive contribution against a side he has tormented in recent meetings.
