Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick may have offered clues about his starting selection for Sunday's derby against Manchester City after several key players were left unused during the club's midweek victory over Sabah.
Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot and Harry Maguire all remained on the bench throughout the match at Old Trafford, a decision that has fuelled speculation over their involvement in the upcoming City fixture. Their absence from the pitch, despite being included in the squad, suggests Carrick could be planning to rotate his side with the derby in mind.
United comfortably saw off Sabah, with Benjamin Sesko netting a third goal shortly before half-time to put the hosts firmly in control. The commanding scoreline allowed Carrick the freedom to make changes during the second half without risking the result. Youri Tielemans, who did not return for the second period, was replaced by Mason Mount, while Kobbie Mainoo was withdrawn just after the hour mark in favor of Andrey Santos.
