Wales and England will renew their rivalry in Llandarcy on Friday, 11 September, in a fixture that marks another turning point for the Wales Deaf men's football team as it looks to recover from a difficult year and build momentum toward major international tournaments.
The Wales Deaf Football Association reformed the squad in 2023, and the early signs were encouraging: a draw with England and victories over Scotland and Ireland in their opening three matches. But that promise faded in 2024 when Wales travelled to Turkey for the EuroDeaf Championships and were beaten in all four group games.
The disappointing tournament prompted the WDFA to overhaul its coaching setup, leading to the appointment of former Wales Deaf international James Taylor as head coach. His first match in charge brought a harsh welcome, as England thrashed Wales 7-1 at St George's Park in February.
