Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian teenage defender Denner Alves Evangelista Pereira, known simply as Denner, in a deal that had been in the works for well over a year. The move sees the 18-year-old join the Blues from Corinthians, with the club's academy set to be his new home.
According to reports, Chelsea first struck an agreement with Corinthians as far back as March 2025, with the understanding that the transfer would only be finalised once Denner turned 18. That milestone has now been reached, and the deal has been completed for a reported fee of €10million, with a further €4million in potential add-ons tied to performance-based clauses. Brazilian media have also indicated that Corinthians secured a 15 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement, ensuring the Sao Paulo club will benefit financially should Denner move on again in the future for a higher fee.
The young defender has signed a lengthy contract with Chelsea, committing his future to the west London club until the summer of 2034. Chelsea's official website described him as a "forward-thinking, left-sided defender," underlining the attacking qualities he is expected to bring to the position.
Denner's footballing journey began at Corinthians, which he joined at the age of 13, progressing steadily through the club's youth ranks. He never made a first-team appearance for the Brazilian giants, but his performances at Under-20 level - often playing above his own age group - caught the attention of scouts across Europe. His standout campaign came last year, when he starred for Corinthians' Under-20 side as they reached the final of the Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Júnior, widely known as the Copinha, one of Brazil's most prestigious youth tournaments.
During that run, Denner contributed three goals and two assists, including a decisive strike in the final itself against rivals Sao Paulo. That goal, in particular, offered a glimpse of the qualities that persuaded Chelsea to pursue the deal: after tracking a lofted pass forward, he powered past a defender, cut inside, and finished emphatically at the near post. His displays throughout the tournament marked him out as one of its standout performers.
On the international stage, Denner has already represented Brazil at youth level, forming part of the Under-17 squad that won the South American Championships last year. Hailing from Sao Paulo, football runs deep in his family background - he is a cousin of Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes, who himself came through Brazilian football before moving to Europe with Lille in 2017.
Denner's arrival continues a clear pattern in Chelsea's recruitment strategy, with the club consistently targeting some of South America's most promising young talents. Brazilian winger Estevao, 19, has already made a strong impression since joining Chelsea, while this summer the club also brought in Argentine midfielder Valentin Barco, 22, from sister club Strasbourg. Chelsea's squad already features other South American prospects, including Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino, 21, and Ecuadorian midfielder Kendry Paez, 19.
With Denner now officially part of the setup, Chelsea will be hoping he can develop into another success story from their South American scouting network, joining a growing group of young talents being nurtured within the club's academy structure.
