David Moyes has declined to be drawn into the growing chatter surrounding a potential return for Jack Grealish, as Everton continue preparations for their away fixture against Bournemouth.
The Manchester City winger has been strongly linked with a move back to Merseyside, with reports suggesting he would favour a return to Hill Dickinson Stadium should City look to move him on before the transfer window shuts. Grealish is currently in the last year of his contract at the Etihad and has also been connected with Sunderland and boyhood club Aston Villa.
Asked directly about the prospect of re-signing the 30-year-old, Moyes was careful not to commit to anything specific. "We are in the recruitment business and we are looking to see if we can bring some players in if possible," the Everton manager said. "But there's no guarantee and to name one person would be wrong. Jack's not at our club. He was brilliant for us, a great boy, but not for us to talk about because he's at another club."
Grealish's previous stint with Everton came via a season-long loan, during which he contributed two goals and six assists across 20 Premier League appearances. However, his time on Merseyside was disrupted when a broken foot forced him to undergo surgery in February, cutting his campaign short.
Moyes also faced questions about the futures of other key players, notably Illiman Ndiaye, who has reportedly caught the eye of Manchester City. The Everton boss was firm in shutting down any suggestion that his prized assets might be sold cheaply or hastily. "We're certainly not in a hurry to sell our best players, that's for sure," he stated.
On the injury front, Tim Iroegbunam remains unavailable, while James Garner could stake a claim for more regular minutes following his impressive showing in Everton's Carabao Cup win over Preston in midweek. That victory followed a strong league result against Crystal Palace last weekend, continuing a promising start to the campaign for the Toffees.
Moyes is now hoping his side can carry that momentum into Saturday's match at Bournemouth, particularly given Everton's impressive away record from last season. The club finished seventh in the Premier League's away form table during the 2025/26 campaign, a statistic Moyes is eager to replicate or improve upon this term.
"We hope that we can follow it up and do as well as we did last year away from home," Moyes said. "We always travelled with a great away support and they got some really good days last year."
With two wins from their opening fixtures across competitions, Everton will be looking to maintain their positive trajectory before a high-profile home clash against Manchester United the following weekend. That fixture is likely to draw significant attention regardless of how the Grealish transfer saga unfolds, but for now, Moyes remains focused on results rather than speculation.
The transfer window remains open for a short while longer, and further developments regarding Grealish's future — along with any incoming additions to Moyes' squad — are expected to unfold in the coming days.
