Arsenal are on the verge of completing the signing of highly rated young striker Igor Tyjon from Blackburn Rovers, with an official announcement expected imminently after the two clubs finally reached an agreement following several failed attempts in previous transfer windows.
The 18-year-old forward has been a target for the Gunners for more than a year as the club looks to bolster its academy ranks, particularly in the striker department. Arsenal had seen offers in the region of £1m knocked back before eventually agreeing a deal that satisfied Blackburn's demands.
Tyjon will initially join Arsenal's Under-21 squad, though he is expected to train with Mikel Arteta's senior group on occasion. There is optimism within the club that the teenager could be involved with the first team at some point this season, though much may hinge on how far Arsenal progress in domestic cup competitions.
The move comes as part of a broader strategy by Arsenal to invest heavily in academy talent, a push that has intensified over the summer transfer window. The club are also close to finalising a separate double swoop for Manchester United youngsters James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye.
Tyjon's football journey began at Rochdale before he moved to Blackburn's academy setup in the summer of 2023. He wasted no time making an impression, scoring on his debut for Blackburn's Under-21s at just 15 years old. By the end of that same season, he had already earned a place on the first-team bench.
His progress continued the following year when he put pen to paper on a two-year scholarship deal in 2024. Since then, he has gone on to make three appearances for Blackburn's senior side. At youth level, his output has been prolific — Tyjon netted 13 goals in 33 outings for the Under-21s, predominantly playing as a central striker, though he has also shown versatility by featuring on the wing and in a No.10 role.
Blackburn had hoped to tie Tyjon down to a professional contract, but the striker made clear he had no interest in signing one. As a result, the Lancashire club opted to extend his scholarship terms — which had been set to expire this summer — for a further year in an effort to retain some control over his future before Arsenal's move materialised.
On the international front, Tyjon's eligibility has been a talking point given his family background. Both of his parents are Polish, and he represented Poland at Under-16 level. However, he has since switched allegiances and has been capped by England, going on to represent the Three Lions at last season's Under-17 World Cup.
With the transfer now understood to be close to being finalised, Arsenal supporters will be eager to see how the teenager develops within the club's youth setup, with hopes that he could eventually break into first-team contention given his scoring record and adaptability across attacking positions.
