Vicario Set for Juventus Move as Tottenham Continue Squad Overhaul

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, with the Italian set to join Juventus as Roberto De Zerbi presses ahead with reshaping his squad this summer.

Vicario arrived in north London from Empoli back in 2023 and quickly established himself as Spurs' number one goalkeeper. However, a dip in form last season saw his position at the club come under scrutiny, and he was subsequently included among the players deemed available for transfer as De Zerbi looks to reshape the squad according to his own vision.

Juventus have long admired Vicario, but their initial focus this summer was on Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez. The Bianconeri came close to agreeing a deal for the Argentine shot-stopper, but negotiations collapsed over the weekend, prompting the Turin club to redirect their efforts toward the Tottenham man.

With Vicario's move now in motion, the path is clear for 23-year-old Antonin Kinsky to take over as Tottenham's first-choice goalkeeper. The Czech international rose to prominence last season after being given a surprise start by then-manager Igor Tudor in the Champions League last-16 first leg against Atletico Madrid, marking his full debut for the club. That outing proved difficult, as he was substituted after just 17 minutes following two costly errors that led directly to goals.

Despite that rocky start, Kinsky bounced back impressively and finished the campaign as Tottenham's preferred goalkeeper while Vicario was sidelined recovering from hernia surgery. Reflecting on the young keeper's progress earlier this summer, De Zerbi expressed strong confidence in his ability to grow into a top-level performer. "We have huge belief in what Toni can become. He is still young, has enormous potential and I know that Spurs is the perfect place for him to continue to develop into one of the best goalkeepers in Europe," the manager said.

For Vicario, the switch to Juventus represents an opportunity to help revive the Turin giants after a disappointing campaign. The club finished sixth in Serie A last season, a substantial 18 points behind champions Inter Milan, falling short of the standards typically expected at one of Italy's most successful clubs.

Should his registration be completed in time, Vicario could make an immediate impact for his new side, potentially featuring in Juventus' opening Serie A fixture of the season away at Frosinone this coming Sunday. The move would give him a quick opportunity to settle into life in Turin and begin adapting to a new league and squad.

Vicario's exit adds to a growing list of departures from Tottenham this summer as De Zerbi reshapes the squad following his appointment. Defenders Djed Spence and Cristian Romero have both already completed moves away from the club earlier in the week, signaling a broader restructuring effort under the new manager.

With key personnel changes already underway across multiple positions, Tottenham's squad is taking on a notably different look heading into the new campaign. The club will be hoping that Kinsky can seize his opportunity between the posts while De Zerbi continues to mold the team according to his tactical philosophy, with further incomings and outgoings possible before the transfer window closes.
