Rangers have moved into the transfer market with a significant offer for Portland Timbers forward Kevin Kelsy, according to reports, as both Old Firm clubs continue to explore reinforcements ahead of the coming window.
The Ibrox club have reportedly submitted a bid worth around £7.5m for the 22-year-old Venezuela international, though the MLS side are said to be reluctant to part with their striker, who himself is not understood to be pushing for a move away from Portland at this stage.
Rangers have also been busy elsewhere in attempting to strengthen their defensive options. The Scottish club have reportedly agreed terms to bring in left-back James Penrice on a loan deal from AEK Athens, with the arrangement said to include a buy option clause. Penrice, formerly of Hearts, would represent a domestic-to-continental return should the move be finalised.
Rangers' recruitment scouting has also extended to the wide areas of the pitch, with the club joining a list of prominent European sides showing interest in Girona winger Min-Su Kim. The 20-year-old is reportedly also being monitored by Fenerbahce, Ajax and Lyon, all of whom have sought updated information on the player in recent days, suggesting a competitive market may develop for his signature.
Away from transfer targets, Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh has reportedly held preliminary talks with Linfield after being approached regarding a potential investment in the Northern Irish club, though details of any prospective arrangement remain unclear at this stage.
Across Glasgow, Celtic are also active on multiple fronts. The Parkhead club are said to be tracking Slovan Liberec attacking midfielder Ermin Mahmic, a 21-year-old Bosnian international who could command what would reportedly be the largest sale in the Czech club's history if a deal for him materialises.
Celtic have also been linked with Lech Poznan winger Patrik Walemark. The 24-year-old is reportedly attracting interest from both the Scottish champions and Dutch outfit Groningen, setting up potential competition for his services.
On the outgoing side, Celtic appear close to sanctioning the departure of midfielder Arne Engels, with West Ham United reportedly closing in on a deal worth in excess of £20m for the player. Should the transfer go through, it would represent a substantial fee for the Scottish champions and a notable statement of intent from the London club.
To help address any gap left in midfield or defence, Celtic are reportedly in advanced discussions over a loan move for Chelsea left-back Landon Emenalo, an 18-year-old considered among the promising young talents at Stamford Bridge.
Celtic's interest is not confined to a single position, however, as the club is also said to retain its long-standing interest in Hajduk Split right-back Niko Sigur, valued at around £6m. Torino midfielder Gvidas Ginetis and Hibernian's Miguel Chaiwa have also been mentioned as alternative options under consideration by the Celtic recruitment team.
With both Rangers and Celtic pursuing multiple targets across different positions, the coming weeks are likely to bring further developments as both clubs look to strengthen their squads for continued domestic and European competition.
