Mbeumo Strikes Again as Manchester United Hold PSG in Pre-Season Draw

By LiveScore365 Newsroom · UEFA Europa League Aston Villa

Manchester United continued their promising pre-season form with a 1-1 draw against reigning French and European champions Paris Saint-Germain, with Bryan Mbeumo once again finding the net for the Red Devils.

The visitors made a lightning start, taking the lead inside the first two minutes when Ibrahim Mbaye - a player reportedly on Liverpool's radar - tapped home from close range after being picked out by a cross from Dro Fernandez. It was a sharp opening from PSG, who looked to make an early statement against their Premier League opponents.

United responded well, however, and Mbeumo's leveller ensured the sides went in level, extending the forward's encouraging run of pre-season goals as he continues to build momentum ahead of the new campaign.

Manager Michael Carrick used the fixture to hand minutes to several key figures returning from extended breaks. Captain Bruno Fernandes made his first appearance of the pre-season schedule, coming off the bench alongside Diogo Dalot, while summer signing Youri Tielemans also featured for the first time in a United shirt, entering the action for the final 25 minutes of the contest.

Noussair Mazraoui was another notable inclusion, starting the match after returning from his post-World Cup break, giving Carrick a clearer picture of his defensive options as preparations continue.

There were, though, a couple of fitness concerns to emerge from the encounter. Mason Mount was forced off early with what appeared to be a foot problem, sparking some worry within the camp given the midfielder's injury history. Meanwhile, experienced goalkeeper Tom Heaton did not last long after the restart, being substituted shortly into the second half due to a hamstring issue. Dermot Mee came on to replace him between the posts.

Despite the injury scares, the overall performance will have pleased Carrick, who has been using the pre-season schedule to build cohesion and fitness across his squad before the competitive season begins in earnest.

United's preparations now shift to Ireland, where the club will host a training camp ahead of a highly anticipated fixture against rivals Leeds United. That match, notable for taking place at the historic Croke Park in Dublin, is scheduled for Wednesday and is expected to draw significant attention given the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.

Following that encounter, United will wrap up their pre-season schedule with a trip to Poland, where they are set to face Italian giants AC Milan in what will serve as a final test before the new Premier League campaign gets underway.

For PSG, the draw with United represents something of a return to form after a difficult start to their own pre-season, having been beaten 3-0 by Mallorca earlier in the week in a result that will have surprised many given the club's status as European champions. Luis Enrique's side will now turn their attention to the UEFA Super Cup, where they are due to face Europa League winners Aston Villa in Salzburg. That fixture will be followed by the Trophee des Champions, in which PSG are scheduled to meet Ligue 1 rivals Lens.

Both clubs will hope to iron out any lingering issues before their respective seasons begin, with United particularly keen to manage the fitness of Mount and Heaton in the coming days.
