The 27-year-old centre-back is expected to link up with his new teammates as early as this weekend, giving him a chance to acclimatise before returning to competitive action. Araujo arrives with significant pedigree, having spent his entire senior career at Barcelona since moving from Uruguayan side Boston River in 2018. In that time, he has made more than 200 appearances for the Catalan giants and played a key role in three La Liga title triumphs over the past four seasons.
Despite his contributions, Araujo found regular starts hard to come by last term, making just 11 league appearances as Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi established themselves as Barcelona's preferred centre-back pairing. Nevertheless, his standing at the club remained high — in January 2026, he was named Barcelona captain following Marc-Andre ter Stegen's departure, a role he held until the end of last season. He remains under contract with Barcelona until 2031.
