The summer transfer window continues to churn out significant moves across Europe's top leagues, with Manchester City captain Rodri emerging as the most eye-catching name on the market. The World Cup-winning midfielder, who enters the final year of his contract, appears to favour a switch to Barcelona, with the Catalan club reportedly negotiating a fee in the region of €45m. Real Madrid have also been credited with interest, and Spanish outlet El Nacional suggests the Bernabeu club could offset the cost of a move by selling midfield duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, both of whom have been linked with Manchester United.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Vinicius Jr after the Brazilian forward agreed a contract extension with Real Madrid running until 2032. The new deal follows a period of stalled negotiations, during which Vinicius's representatives had reportedly sought terms comparable to those given to Kylian Mbappe. With that avenue closed, the Gunners have shifted focus back to Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez and Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as alternative attacking targets.
There was better news at the Emirates on other fronts, however, as Bruno Guimaraes has undergone a medical ahead of a £75m transfer from Newcastle United. The 28-year-old midfielder is expected to be unveiled as an Arsenal player before the weekend, giving Mikel Arteta a marquee addition as his side prepare to defend their Premier League title in pre-season fixtures.
Liverpool are also monitoring the Barcola situation and could pursue a double deal from PSG, with the French champions' young forward Ibrahim Mbaye also on their radar. Paris Saint-Germain's decision to sign Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche for a reported £42.8m fee has fuelled speculation that Barcola could be deemed surplus to requirements, potentially opening the door for Liverpool to negotiate a fee lower than PSG's initial £140m valuation. Despite links to Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool have insisted there are no plans to part with Dutch forward Cody Gakpo, who still has four years remaining on his contract. Any departure would only be sanctioned alongside a direct replacement.
Tottenham, who have already spent £237m this summer, have moved to play down reports connecting them with Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson following his return from a loan spell at Bayern Munich. The north London club remain more focused on options such as Gakpo and Manchester City's Savinho, with new boss Roberto De Zerbi keen to strengthen his attacking department further.
Manchester United have been active in multiple areas of the squad, completing the signing of a teenage midfielder and continuing their search for a new left-back. Lewis Hall of Newcastle remains their primary target, though the Magpies are said to be resistant to sanctioning another sale having already lost Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, with Bruno Guimaraes now also departing. According to The Athletic, Newcastle have made clear that Hall, valued at around £60m, is not for sale. United are said to be exploring alternatives including Fulham's Antonee Robinson, Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Racing Santander's Jorge Salinas, whose release clause of around £13.7m could reportedly be triggered.
Elsewhere, United have agreed to loan goalkeeper Altay Bayindir to Celta Vigo for the season, with the Spanish club holding an option to make the move permanent for approximately £3.5m, subject to a sell-on clause. In the lower reaches of the market, Brighton have received an approach from LaLiga side Elche over a possible loan for midfielder Facundo Buonanotte, who spent time on loan at Chelsea and Leeds last season.
