Coventry Set to Break Transfer Record Again With £23m Yirenkyi Deal

Coventry City are poised to shatter their transfer record for a fourth time this summer after striking a £23m agreement with Danish outfit Nordsjælland for Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi.

The 20-year-old midfielder caught the eye during Ghana's World Cup campaign, netting the decisive goal in a group-stage victory over Panama. His switch to the newly promoted Premier League club would represent a Danish top-flight record sale. Yirenkyi is expected to travel to the West Midlands shortly to finalise the move.

Having emerged through the Right to Dream academy in Ghana, Yirenkyi joined Nordsjælland in 2024 and quickly established himself, earning the Danish league's young player of the year honour last season. His performances had also drawn attention from Brighton and Everton in the past. Reports suggest Coventry boss Frank Lampard sought insight into the player from former Chelsea colleague Michael Essien, who now coaches at Nordsjælland.

The deal continues a remarkable spending spree at Coventry, who have already committed close to £60m this window on winger Loum Tchaouna, defender Aurèle Amenda and goalkeeper Carl Rushworth as they prepare for life back in the top flight.
