Palace Stun Glasner's Forest with Second-Half Blitz as Hull and Everton Share Spoils

Crystal Palace produced a remarkable turnaround to beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 at Selhurst Park, overturning an early deficit in a Premier League afternoon that also saw Hull and Everton draw 1-1 and Southampton edge past Portsmouth.

Oliver Glasner, returning to his former home with Forest, looked set for a victorious reunion when Dan Ndoye raced onto a loose ball inside three minutes to put the visitors ahead. Forest continued to carve out openings throughout the first half, with Morgan Gibbs-White striking the crossbar and Liam Delap denied by goalkeeper Walter Benitez, who was in inspired form to keep Palace in the contest.

Against the run of play, Palace equalised through Daichi Kamada in the 41st minute, the Japan international calmly finishing after a slick passing move involving Strand Larsen's flick and a final touch from Quinten Timber. The turnaround was completed deep into first-half stoppage time when Jefferson Lerma bundled home from a Wharton corner, sending Selhurst Park into raptures after Matz Sels had earlier denied Tyrick Mitchell.

Palace extended their advantage early in the second half when Sels parried a Strand Larsen effort straight into the path of Yeremy Pino, who tapped in the rebound to make it 3-1. The goal was checked by VAR but ultimately stood, compounding a miserable afternoon for Forest, who had squandered several earlier opportunities to put the game beyond doubt.

Speaking before kickoff about his decision to take charge of Forest, Glasner revealed the move came together quickly during a family holiday. "She said: 'Why are you always looking at your phone?' [I said:] 'I'm going to Athens tomorrow.' She said: 'Are you crazy? We are here on vacation.' There were many, many different options in the summer. The one I thought I would do is staying at home, which is why my family was not really pleased with my early decision to leave again... but in that moment when I looked in detail, into the squad, and gathered my thoughts, I started to get butterflies," Glasner said.

At the MKM Stadium, Hull and Everton shared the points in an eventful 1-1 draw. Brennan Johnson appeared to have given Everton the lead in the 34th minute after pouncing on a mistake by goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review for an offside challenge on the keeper. Hull made the Toffees pay for their missed chance when Joe Gelhardt capitalised on a defensive error from Ryan Maitland-Niles shortly after the restart, finishing a swift counter-attack set up by Sorba Thomas. Everton eventually found their equaliser through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who headed home from a recycled corner in the 55th minute after Maitland-Niles made amends with the assist.

The match also saw tempers flare between James Tarkowski and Oli McBurnie, with the Hull striker booked following a VAR review of the incident.

In an earlier kickoff on the south coast, Southampton secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Portsmouth. James Bree's 20th-minute strike proved decisive, with the Saints holding firm even after Portsmouth's Cameron Bragg was sent off before half-time. Despite playing with a numerical advantage for over an hour, Southampton's victory came through resilient defending rather than further attacking threat, as Portsmouth struggled to find a way through in the second half.
