With the domestic football calendar back in full swing following the international break, a host of young players out on loan from London's Premier League clubs produced eye-catching performances across Europe and the English lower leagues last weekend.
Arsenal academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri thought he had conjured a spectacular moment for his new club Borussia Dortmund, only to see it taken away from him. The teenager reacted sharply after Dortmund cleared the ball off their own line, unleashing an audacious overhead kick that appeared to put his side in front. Replays showed, however, that the move originated from an offside position, and the goal was chalked off. Nwaneri has found the going tough since his move to Germany, and there was further frustration for Dortmund as they let slip a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Werder Bremen, ending a run of three straight wins.
Elsewhere in Ligue 1, Chelsea loanee Dario Essugo marked his first start for Strasbourg with a goal, though it wasn't enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat to Nice. The midfielder struck from the edge of the box in the 41st minute to put the visitors ahead, justifying manager Hugo Oliveira's decision to hand him a starting role. Speaking afterwards, Essugo credited his coach for encouraging him to play with more freedom.
