Arsenal have officially confirmed the signing of Georgian wonderkid Andria Bartishvili on a pre-contract agreement, with the 17-year-old forward set to join the Premier League club in the summer of 2027.
The teenager travelled to London two weeks ago to finalise the necessary paperwork and pass a medical examination ahead of the announcement. He will remain with his current club, Iberia 1999, for the remainder of this season before officially becoming an Arsenal player.
Bartishvili, who came through the youth ranks at Dinamo Tbilisi, has already made history in Georgian football. He became the youngest player ever to appear in the Erovnuli Liga, making his senior debut at just 16 years and two days old last April. A month later, he scored his first senior goal, further boosting his growing reputation. The forward has also featured prominently for Georgia's youth national teams, cementing his status as one of the country's brightest young talents.
His emergence has drawn comparisons to Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, largely due to the involvement of Italian agent Christian Dzaccardo, the same figure who was instrumental in brokering Kvaratskhelia's move to Serie A back in 2022. Dzaccardo has been vocal about the parallels he sees between the two Georgian talents.
"Recently, a lot of talented players have appeared in Georgia, one of such players is Andria Bartishvili," Dzaccardo said. "This 16-year-old attacking midfielder has the potential to become a great player."
He added further context to his scouting instincts, drawing directly on his prior experience with Kvaratskhelia: "I saw Khvicha Kvaratskhelia play two years before he moved to Napoli, he was already a phenomenal player. I met him and then recommended him to Napoli."
Arsenal released a statement confirming the transfer arrangement, expressing enthusiasm for the young player's future at the club while acknowledging he still has work to do domestically before making the move to north London. "Everyone at Arsenal looks forward to Andria's arrival next summer and wishes him luck for the rest of this season at Iberia 1999," the statement read.
What remains unclear at this stage is exactly how Bartishvili will be integrated once he arrives in England. Arsenal have not indicated whether he will be fast-tracked into Mikel Arteta's first-team plans or initially placed within the club's respected academy setup to continue his development away from the immediate pressures of top-flight football.
The long lead time before his arrival—almost two full years—suggests Arsenal are willing to be patient with a player they clearly view as a significant long-term investment. Pre-contract agreements of this nature are relatively uncommon for a player of Bartishvili's age, underlining the scale of the club's belief in his potential.
For now, attention turns back to Georgia, where Bartishvili will continue playing for Iberia 1999 and representing his country at youth level as he looks to build on the record-breaking start to his senior career. Should he continue his rapid development, Arsenal fans may not have to wait long after his 2027 arrival to see whether the Kvaratskhelia comparisons carry weight on the pitch as well as off it.
