Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi could look to leave the club as early as January after finding himself out of favour in the starting lineup, with both Chelsea and Real Madrid reportedly monitoring the 27-year-old Spain international's situation.
Zubimendi arrived at the Emirates with high expectations but has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot this season, prompting speculation that he may push for a move away in the winter transfer window. Real Madrid, who have long admired the defensive midfielder's composure and passing range, are said to be keeping tabs on his availability, while Chelsea have also emerged as potential suitors should he become available.
Elsewhere on the free-agent market, Argentine forward Mauro Icardi has signalled his willingness to join Everton after his departure from Turkish side Galatasaray in July. The 33-year-old striker, who has been without a club since leaving Turkey, is understood to be open to a move to the Premier League. However, sources close to Everton have downplayed any concrete interest in Icardi, and similarly dismissed suggestions the club could move for fellow free agent Anthony Martial. The 30-year-old French forward, once of Manchester United, most recently featured for Mexican club Monterrey and remains without a team.
Liverpool were also reportedly keen on Italian defender Marco Palestra, but the 21-year-old ultimately completed a move from Atalanta to Chelsea instead. The Reds were said to have been constrained by the need to prioritise reinforcements in other areas of the squad, which prevented them from pursuing the young centre-back more aggressively.
In other defensive business, Newcastle United's interest in Atalanta's Giorgio Scalvini appears to have hit a snag after the 22-year-old Italy international put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with the Serie A club, effectively ending any immediate hopes of a switch to St James' Park.
At Aston Villa, discussions are reportedly underway between the club and Dutch left-back Ian Maatsen, 24, over the terms of a new contract that would extend his stay at Villa Park. The negotiations come as Villa look to secure key pieces of their squad for the future.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah is said to be contemplating a switch in international allegiance, considering a move away from England to represent Ghana instead. The 27-year-old forward has yet to establish himself as a regular for the Three Lions and could be weighing up his options for international football going forward.
Finally, Colombian striker Kevin Viveros looks set to remain at Athletico Paranaense after reportedly nearing a new contract agreement with the Brazilian club. The 26-year-old had attracted interest from both Sunderland and Aston Villa during the summer transfer window, but it now appears he will continue his career in Brazil rather than making the switch to English football.
