According to the BBC, Kamurasi has travelled to Uganda to attend the funeral of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, ruler of the Tooro Kingdom, who died last week in the United States at the age of 34 following treatment for an aggressive form of cancer. The funeral is expected to take place before the weekend, and tradition dictates that a successor to the throne must be named before the burial.
Widespread reports suggest Kamurasi, a direct descendant of the Babiito clan and a cousin of the late King Oyo, has been chosen as the region's new king. The Tooro Kingdom is one of several traditional monarchies in Uganda that, while holding no formal political power, retain considerable cultural influence in a country governed by an elected president and parliament.
