The full list of contenders for the 2026 Ballon d'Or has been unveiled, with England captain and Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane emerging as the standout name among 30 nominees for the men's award.
Kane finds himself installed as the favourite to claim the prize following a remarkable campaign in which he netted 73 goals across all competitions for club and country. Should he go on to win, the 33-year-old would become the first English player to lift the men's Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen achieved the feat back in 2001. Kane faces stiff competition from a host of other elite performers. PSG dominate the nominations with an especially large contingent, featuring Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz, Ferran Torres and Vitinha among others.
In the women's competition, Manchester City's Khadija Shaw could be viewed as one of the frontrunners after spearheading her side to a WSL and FA Cup double last season. She joins a field that includes Barcelona stars Cata Coll, Ewa Pajor, Alexia Putellas and Claudia Pina, alongside Arsenal's Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo, and Manchester City teammates Alex Greenwood and Vivianne Miedema.
Across the various individual honours, Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has been recognised for his club form despite not featuring at the World Cup, while Chelsea's Hannah Hampton, last year's Yashin Trophy winner, returns among the nominees for the women's goalkeeper award.
In the young talent categories, Barcelona's Lamine Yamal has been nominated for the Kopa Trophy for a third consecutive year, appearing alongside fellow prospects such as Pau Cubarsi and Warren Zaire-Emery. On the women's side, Barcelona's Vicky Lopez continues to be recognised for her development, featuring in a list that also includes Chelsea's Veerle Buurman and USA international Lily Yohannes of OL Lyonnes.
The coaching nominations reflect a season of major achievements, with Arsenal's Mikel Arteta recognised for ending the club's long wait for a Premier League title and reaching the Champions League final. He is joined by Spain boss Luis de la Fuente, Aston Villa's Unai Emery, Bayern Munich's Vincent Kompany and PSG's Luis Enrique. In the women's game, Andree Jeglertz earns a nomination after leading Manchester City to a domestic double in his debut season in English football.
For the club awards, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Bodo/Glimt, Flamengo and PSG are all in contention on the men's side, while Barcelona, who secured a third Women's Champions League title in four years, headline the women's shortlist alongside Bayern Munich, Club America, Manchester City and OL Lyonnes.
The Ballon d'Or ceremony is scheduled to take place in London on Monday, 26 October.
