Arsenal welcome Chelsea to the Emirates Stadium this weekend in a fixture billed as an early indicator of this season's Premier League title race, with both London clubs having made perfect starts to their campaigns.
Mikel Arteta's reigning champions arrive on the back of a hard-fought win at Aston Villa, a result that underlined the resilience of a squad that failed to land a marquee attacking addition in the transfer window. Xabi Alonso's Chelsea, meanwhile, have been the most eye-catching attacking side in the division so far, with Cole Palmer rediscovering his best form alongside new signing Joao Pedro and £117million recruit Morgan Rogers. The trio have given the Blues a genuine cutting edge, though their defensive record has been shakier, having already conceded five goals in two matches.
Despite that attacking promise, Chelsea have not beaten Arsenal in five years, and the Gunners go into the match unbeaten in 11 successive meetings with their rivals across all competitions - nine of those in the Premier League - their longest such streak since a run that stretched from 1995 to 2005.
For the derby, Arteta made just one change to the side that started against Villa, handing Ezri Konsa his first Premier League start in place of the injured Cristhian Mosquera. Christos Tzolis was preferred to Eberechi Eze on the left of the attack despite a difficult outing against Villa, while Bruno Guimaraes had to settle for a place among the substitutes. Declan Rice, whose fitness had been the subject of some speculation after he was not spotted with the squad on a pre-match walk, was named in his usual midfield role alongside Myles Lewis-Skelly and Martin Odegaard.

Both sides did significant business in the summer market. Arsenal brought in Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle, Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge, and Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa, while losing Gabriel Martinelli to Al Hilal and seeing Gabriel Jesus depart for Barcelona. Chelsea's spending was even more eye-catching, with Rogers, Lacroix and goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez among the arrivals, funded in part by Enzo Fernandez's £120million move to Manchester City.
