Fernandez's £120m move to Manchester City left a notable gap in Chelsea's engine room, and while the club had agreed a £47m deal to bring in Monaco's Lamine Camara as cover, the French club withdrew from the agreement at the eleventh hour. That leaves Alonso to navigate the season with his existing squad, and the Spaniard insists he is not short of alternatives.
Reece James and Moises Caicedo remain pivotal figures in Alonso's setup, though there are fitness concerns surrounding the Ecuadorian, who was substituted shortly after entering the fray against Brighton.
