Rashford Hopes to Let His Football Do the Talking Amid Constant Media Scrutiny

By LiveScore365 Newsroom · Premier League Manchester United

Marcus Rashford has voiced his desire to focus purely on football without becoming a constant topic of discussion, after a moment on a popular football podcast reignited attention on his situation at Manchester United.

The 28-year-old forward responded on social media after a clip from the Stick to Football podcast circulated online, showing former United defender Gary Neville attempting to bring up Rashford's name, only for co-host Jamie Carragher to express visible exasperation at the recurring topic.

"Can we do a podcast without mentioning Rashford?" Carragher said on the show. "Stop it. Oh my God. It's like the Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Rashford… like a little part of the podcast. The Trent part or the Rashford part."

Rashford, clearly amused but also candid about the situation, replied to the clip on X, thanking Carragher for his comment. "Thanks, Jamie," he wrote. "It would be great to be able to get my head down and play football without my name being mentioned every day."

The England international has been at the center of transfer speculation and tactical debate for much of the past year. After a difficult spell under previous United boss Erik ten Hag, Rashford was sent on loan to Barcelona for the 2024-25 season, where he enjoyed a resurgence and played a role in the Catalan club's La Liga title triumph.

Despite interest in a permanent move away from Old Trafford, Rashford now appears likely to remain part of Ruben Amorim's plans for the upcoming campaign. His most recent competitive appearance for United came back in December 2024, also under Amorim, meaning he has been absent from the matchday squad for the majority of the intervening months.

That could change soon, however, as Rashford is expected to be in contention for a recall when United open their Premier League season away to newly promoted Hull City on Saturday.

The forward's proposed return to the fold received a boost of support from within the dressing room over the weekend. Speaking after United's 4-2 defeat in a preseason friendly against AC Milan, defender Harry Maguire made clear he wants Rashford to stay and contribute this season.

"He's a big asset," Maguire said, adding that Rashford remains a "huge threat" going forward. The comments from the club captain suggest a level of internal backing for Rashford as he looks to reestablish himself following his time away in Spain.

Whether Rashford starts the season opener at Hull remains to be seen, but his social media exchange with Carragher highlighted the level of scrutiny he continues to face, even during a period when he has not featured for his parent club. For a player who has spent much of his career under the media spotlight — both for his performances on the pitch and his high-profile activism off it — the desire to simply let his football speak is understandable.

United's pursuit of a positive start to the new Premier League campaign will likely determine how much of a role Rashford plays going forward, but for now, the forward appears eager to shift the narrative away from constant speculation and back toward performances on the field.
