Omar Marmoush appears to have already settled on his next move as speculation grows over a potential exit from Manchester City this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur emerging as one of the clubs monitoring his situation.
According to reports, Spurs have been exploring a double swoop on City, targeting both winger Savinho and Marmoush as Roberto De Zerbi looks to bolster his attacking options. While interest in Savinho has been ongoing for some time, the club's pursuit of Marmoush is described as a more recent development.
The Egyptian forward joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January for a fee of £59 million, arriving with a strong reputation after a productive spell in the Bundesliga. However, his time at the Etihad has been defined largely by limited opportunities, as he has found himself competing for a starting berth behind Erling Haaland, whose consistent goal output has made him virtually undroppable in City's lineup.
Despite the arrival of a new manager at City, with Pep Guardiola having departed and Enzo Maresca stepping into the role, reports suggest Marmoush has nonetheless concluded that his future lies away from the club. His game time reflects the challenge he has faced in dislodging Haaland from the side: last season he made 21 Premier League appearances, scoring three goals, a drop from his previous form of seven goals in 16 matches before his move to Manchester.
For Tottenham, any deal for Marmoush would fit into a broader strategy of reinforcing the squad under De Zerbi, who has already overseen a busy summer transfer window. Spurs have reportedly spent in the region of £237 million on new recruits so far, with significant investment across multiple areas of the pitch.
Among the headline arrivals have been Sandro Tonali, signed for a reported £100 million, and Mateus Fernandes, who joined for around £85 million. The club has also strengthened its defensive options considerably, bringing in Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Jan Paul van Hecke to add depth and experience at the back.
With much of the rebuilding work seemingly focused on midfield and defense, De Zerbi is now believed to be turning his attention toward attacking reinforcements. Spurs have been hit by a number of injury absences in forward areas, prompting the search for additional firepower.
Complicating matters further, there remain uncertainties surrounding the futures of both Richarlison and Dominic Solanke. Richarlison's long-term role at the club has been the subject of speculation, while Solanke's fitness has been a persistent concern after the former Bournemouth striker struggled with ankle issues throughout the previous campaign.
Should Tottenham proceed with an approach for Marmoush, it would represent a notable coup, adding a player with proven goal-scoring pedigree from his time in Germany to a squad already reshaped extensively this summer. For City, meanwhile, his departure would mark the end of a brief and largely underwhelming stint at the Etihad, with the striker having struggled to make the impact many expected following his January arrival.
As the transfer window progresses, further details are expected to emerge regarding the structure and timing of any potential deal, with both clubs likely to continue negotiations as De Zerbi pushes to complete his squad overhaul.
