Deadline Business: Liverpool Push for Barcola Deal, Arsenal Chase Alvarez, and Fernandes Set for New Deal at Old Trafford

The Premier League's leading clubs are working through a flurry of transfer activity as the summer window approaches its closing stages, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea all involved in significant business.for for that could reshape their squads for the season ahead.

Liverpool appear closest to completing a marquee move, with reports suggesting Paris Saint-Germain have softened their stance over Bradley Barcola. The French champions had initially wanted around £145million for the winger, but that figure is understood to have dropped to closer to £110million, narrowing the gap between the two clubs. PSG's recent recruitment, which has seen them add Ferran Torres and Mika Godts to their attacking options, is thought to have reduced their reluctance to part with Barcola.

Liverpool are also pursuing a second PSG forward, Ibrahim Mbaye, and are said to have already agreed personal terms with the young striker as part of a possible double deal. Despite the progress, sources indicate the two clubs have yet to finalise an agreement on valuations for either player, meaning talks are set to continue as the deadline nears.

At Manchester United, attention has turned to securing the long-term future of captain Bruno Fernandes. The club have opened discussions over a new contract for the Portuguese midfielder after Turkish side Galatasaray made an approach, reportedly offering him a salary in the region of €20million per year. United, however, have made clear he is not for sale and are working to tie him down beyond his current deal, which runs until 2027 with a club option for an additional year. A release clause that previously stood at £57million has since lapsed, and United insist no rival club has made contact regarding his signature.

Fernandes was a standout performer last season, helping United secure Champions League qualification while setting a new record for assists in a single Premier League campaign. He remains a central figure in manager Michael Carrick's setup.

Arsenal continue their pursuit of attacking reinforcements, with manager Mikel Arteta said to have made a further personal appeal to Julian Alvarez in hopes of luring the Atletico Madrid forward to north London. However, Alvarez has reportedly told Arteta that his preference remains a move to Barcelona, leaving the Gunners with work to do to change his mind. Arsenal are also keeping tabs on Kenan Yildiz and Napoli-turned-Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, who has hinted at being open to a switch to the Emirates Stadium. Elsewhere, the north London club have made enquiries about Atletico full-back Marc Pubill, though Atletico are keen to retain him, while reinforcing the left wing remains their principal focus in the market.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are bracing for a possible bid from Manchester City for Enzo Fernandez following Rodri's departure to Barcelona. City are understood to need to offer more than £120million after missing a deadline previously set by Chelsea. The west London club remain hopeful Fernandez could stay, but have identified Bournemouth's Alex Scott as a potential replacement should the Argentine leave, despite Arsenal and United also monitoring the England international. Chelsea have also placed a steep £100million valuation on winger Pedro Neto amid interest from Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal, though the club are not actively seeking to sell him.

Adding to the day's transfer news, Newcastle United confirmed the signing of defender Amar Dedic from Benfica in a deal worth around £30million. The 24-year-old, who penned a five-year contract, reunites with head coach Matthias Jaissle, with whom he won the Austrian title at Red Bull Salzburg in 2023.

"It's a special feeling and a really big honour for me to join Newcastle United," Dedic said. "I'm really happy to be here and can't wait to start playing for the club and the amazing fans. Working with Matthias again was a big factor for me... Playing Premier League football at St James' Park is going to be really special."

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, all eyes remain on whether Liverpool can finalise their PSG double deal, and how Arsenal, United and Chelsea navigate their respective pursuits in the coming days.
