Arsenal have entered negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of England international Jarell Quansah, as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his defensive options following an injury to William Saliba.
Leverkusen are believed to be holding out for a fee in the region of €50m (£43m) for the 23-year-old, who left Liverpool for the Bundesliga club last summer in an initial £30m deal. That agreement included a buy-back clause for the Reds, though Liverpool have so far not moved to activate it despite several centre-backs at Anfield being sidelined through injury or lacking senior experience.
Quansah's versatility is understood to be a key factor behind Arsenal's interest, with the defender capable of playing both in central defence and at right-back. Arteta reportedly views the England international as a valuable addition who could provide cover and competition across multiple positions in the backline, with Saliba's absence adding urgency to the club's search for defensive reinforcements.
The pursuit of Quansah comes amid a busy period of transfer activity at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have also fielded interest from Galatasaray in forward Gabriel Martinelli, with those discussions taking an unexpected turn after the Turkish club raised the possibility of including Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen as part of any deal. Reports suggest the potential swap could be sweetened further with the inclusion of academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri, turning a straightforward sale into a far more complex negotiation.
Arsenal have not limited their transfer business to defensive reinforcements, with the club also being linked to Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez and Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as Arteta seeks a marquee attacking addition this summer. Liverpool are also said to be interested in Barcola and remain in dialogue with PSG over his valuation.
Elsewhere in the transfer market, Chelsea have set a deadline of 5pm for Manchester City to submit a formal bid for midfielder Enzo Fernandez, with the west London club demanding a fee of around £120m. City, who are working on signing Ayoub Bouaddi and appear close to losing Rodri to Barcelona following an initial €45m bid from the Catalan club, had hoped to negotiate the price down. As an alternative, City have reportedly added Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister to their shortlist as a more affordable option compared to Fernandez and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton.
Inter Milan, meanwhile, are said to be negotiating a deal for Davide Frattesi from Lazio that would free up funds to pursue Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, who is understood to be a significant target for the Serie A club this summer.
At Old Trafford, Manchester United assistant Michael Carrick has played down suggestions the club could make a £100m signing this summer, citing financial constraints. "Money's money. I get that. It's still about football and that's where the competition lies," Carrick said. He also spoke positively about forward Marcus Rashford's role in the squad, adding: "He's our player and has trained really well. It's been good to have him around the group again... he's a very good player, Marcus, and if you're going to have a career over 10 or 15 years, there's going to be times when things go in a direction and maybe a different direction."
Among other confirmed moves, Chelsea have loaned goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen to sister club Strasbourg for the season, while Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has returned to Sheffield United on a season-long loan after an injury-hit spell there earlier this year.
