The Premier League's summer transfer window is entering its final, frantic phase, with several major clubs racing to complete deals before deadline day. Chelsea have set a firm ultimatum for Manchester City regarding midfielder Enzo Fernandez, informing their rivals that any bid must reach £120million and be submitted by 5pm on Friday.
City's interest in the World Cup runner-up is understood to be driven partly by new manager wanting to reunite with his former player. However, Chelsea are reportedly exploring contingency options, with reports suggesting they have been linked with a surprise move for Arsenal's Martin Zubimendi, who previously worked under current Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso at Real Sociedad. Arsenal would reportedly be willing to sell the Spaniard for around £77million, a year after signing him for £60million, though Real Madrid remain long-term admirers.
Chelsea have also strengthened their defensive options by completing the signing of Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano on a five-year deal, in a package worth £16.3million plus £1.7million in add-ons. The full-back, who played in last season's Conference League final, is expected to compete with Jorrel Hato for the left-back role following Marc Cucurella's move to Real Madrid.
Elsewhere, Manchester City are continuing negotiations with Barcelona over a move for Rodri, though the two clubs remain apart on valuation, with City holding out for around £60million for their Ballon d'Or-winning captain. City have also been strongly linked with Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi and made contact regarding Atletico Madrid's Marc Pubill, according to Fabrizio Romano, though a deal is described as difficult. City have also bolstered their goalkeeping options by signing Geronimo Rulli from Marseille for £1.7million as backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma, following the £45million sale of James Trafford to Leeds.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed the club's transfer business is not yet finished, though he cautioned there are no guarantees further deals will be completed.
