Arteta Admits No Guarantee on Further Arsenal Signings Before Deadline

Mikel Arteta has cautioned that Arsenal cannot promise any further additions to the squad before the transfer window closes, despite the club's clear intent to strengthen with the Premier League season now just over a week away.

The Gunners have been active in the market this summer, but Arteta made clear that finding the right reinforcements in the closing stages of the window is proving difficult. Speaking to reporters, the Spaniard stressed that while the club's determination to improve remains strong, the process is not entirely within their control.

"Well, there is more that we want to do because every time we have an opportunity to improve the squad and bring more quality and depth to the squad, we need to do that," Arteta said. "We are actively trying to do so. The thing in the market, it doesn't just depend on you and we are very clear on that."

He went on to underline that Arsenal's ambition to bolster the squad is not in doubt, even if results cannot be guaranteed. "But the approach, the will and the desire of the club, that's unquestionable and we want to try to do that," he added. "But we cannot promise that we're going to do it because, as I said, it doesn't only depend on us."

Arsenal's frustrations in the market were highlighted by their pursuit of Vinicius Junior. The club reportedly assembled a substantial financial package in an effort to lure the Brazilian forward away from Real Madrid, positioning themselves as a genuine and attractive option for the player. While Vinicius was said to have found the prospect of a move to north London appealing, his priority throughout was to remain at the Bernabeu, and the deal ultimately did not materialize.

That setback has left Arteta and Arsenal's recruitment team searching for alternatives who can meet the club's specific requirements — a player capable of both being realistically available and making a genuine difference to the attacking unit. The Arsenal boss acknowledged the scale of that challenge.

"That's the demands," Arteta said, referring to the qualities Arsenal need in any potential new arrival. "I think for the margins to improve, there are very few players in the market that are available to do that and bring that to the club. But again, we are actively looking to improve that and we're going to try."

Despite the uncertainty over incoming transfers, there was a positive development on Wednesday as Bruno Guimaraes made his debut for Arsenal, giving Arteta a fresh option to call upon as preparations for the new campaign continue.

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Arsenal find themselves in a familiar position of balancing ambition with the practical realities of a competitive market. Arteta's comments suggest the club will continue to explore options right up until the window shuts, though he has been careful to manage expectations given the scarcity of suitable targets who fit both the profile and price the Gunners are seeking.

Arsenal's pursuit of squad depth and attacking quality remains a priority as they look to mount a serious challenge on multiple fronts next season, but as Arteta himself conceded, the outcome of any further business is far from certain with time running short before the window closes.
