Sevilla are on the verge of completing a £7.9m signing of Scotland Under-21 forward Robbie Ure from Swedish side IK Sirius, with the 22-year-old expected to undergo a medical at the Spanish club on Monday.
Ure is poised to put pen to paper on a five-year contract that would see him take up the role of lead striker at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, marking a significant step up in his career after a breakout campaign in Scandinavia.
The move comes after a season in which Ure has attracted attention from clubs across the continent, having netted 20 goals and supplied three assists in 20 appearances across all competitions this term. His scoring form has made him one of the standout attacking talents outside Europe's traditional top leagues.
Ure's path to prominence has been far from straightforward. He started out at Rangers, where his opportunities were limited to just three senior appearances and a single goal. He then moved abroad in 2023, joining Belgian outfit Anderlecht, but again found first-team chances hard to come by, making only one senior appearance during his time in Belgium.
It was only after his switch to IK Sirius roughly a year ago that Ure's career truly took flight. Since arriving in Sweden, he has scored 31 goals and added seven assists in 50 appearances for the club, numbers that reflect a dramatic upturn in form and confidence. His contribution has been central to Sirius's excellent campaign, with his 15 league goals helping fire the club to the summit of the Allsvenskan table. Sirius currently hold a commanding 13-point advantage at the midway point of the season, a remarkable achievement built in no small part on Ure's clinical finishing.
The striker's rise has not gone unnoticed by international observers either. Eligible to represent both Scotland and Ukraine at senior level, Ure has so far represented Scotland at Under-19 and Under-21 level but has yet to commit his long-term international future to either nation. Speaking to BBC Scotland last month, he made clear where his heart lies, stating that he would prefer to hold out for a call-up to the senior Scotland squad rather than switch allegiance.
His comments suggest that, despite the uncertainty over his final international destination, Ure remains hopeful of one day pulling on the dark blue of Scotland at senior level, a prospect that would likely be boosted further by a successful move to one of La Liga's most historically significant clubs.
Sevilla, who have long had a reputation for developing and improving young attacking talent before selling them on for substantial profit, appear to see similar potential in Ure. The Andalusian club's willingness to hand him a central attacking role and a lengthy five-year deal underlines the level of belief in his ability to adapt to a higher standard of competition.
Should the transfer be finalized as expected following his medical, Ure will become one of the more eye-catching acquisitions of the window for Sevilla, who will be hoping his scoring instincts translate quickly from the Allsvenskan to the physical and tactical demands of Spanish top-flight football.
