Tottenham Hotspur were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Getafe in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Hotspur Way, with Conor Gallagher's stoppage-time equaliser sparing the hosts from defeat in a match shortened to 70 minutes by prior agreement between the two clubs.
The contest, played across two 35-minute halves at Tottenham's Enfield training base, initially looked destined to end in a narrow win for the LaLiga visitors after Alberto Risco broke the deadlock 15 minutes from the final whistle. The young Spanish midfielder combined neatly with Francisco 'Curro' Burgos before slotting past goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to put Getafe ahead.
Spurs continued to push for a response and were rewarded deep into the closing stages when Gallagher pounced on a loose ball inside the box and drilled a finish into the bottom corner with just two minutes remaining, ensuring the sides shared the spoils.
Richarlison came close to snatching victory for Tottenham in the dying seconds, but his header was kept out by Getafe goalkeeper David Soria, who had already denied the Brazilian forward earlier in the second half. On that previous occasion, Tottenham's players felt the ball had crossed the line, but their appeals were dismissed by the officials.
Head coach Thomas Frank fielded a side captained once again by Archie Gray, deputising for injured centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. New arrivals Sandro Tonali, Jan Paul van Hecke and Andy Robertson all started the match as they continue to build fitness ahead of the new campaign. Guglielmo Vicario was named among the substitutes but did not feature.
Also involved from the beginning were Lucas Bergvall, whose future at the club has been the subject of speculation, and young winger Mikey Moore, who is reportedly closing in on a season-long loan move to Bundesliga side FC Cologne.
Several first-team players remain sidelined as Tottenham continue their pre-season preparations. Van de Ven, who recently agreed a new five-year deal with the club, is yet to make his first appearance of the summer following his return from World Cup commitments with the Netherlands. Pape Matar Sarr was another notable absentee, having missed the final two fixtures of Tottenham's pre-season tour because of a calf problem.
James Maddison, who spent much of last season out with a serious knee injury, has still not played for Spurs during pre-season amid suggestions he is nursing a hip issue. Destiny Udogie and Dominic Solanke were also unavailable for the Getafe fixture.
There was encouraging news, however, regarding two other long-term absentees. Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski were spotted training together last week, offering a positive sign for their respective recoveries, although Kulusevski remains some distance from full match fitness as he continues his rehabilitation from a patella injury sustained in May 2025.
Tottenham's pre-season schedule continues at the same Hotspur Way venue next Sunday, when they take on Bundesliga club Hoffenheim for a second time in as many days, having already met the German outfit in an earlier friendly at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Frank's side will then turn their attention to the Premier League, opening their campaign away at Brentford on August 22.
