The result nonetheless represents a significant point of encouragement for the Red Devils, who arrived at the Emirates having shipped five goals to Chelsea in their previous outing and were widely expected to be brushed aside again.
Instead, United produced a disciplined defensive display and snatched a shock lead when Julia Zigiotti Olme capitalized on a costly mistake from Arsenal's Georgia Stanway early in the second half. Attempting a routine pass back to centre-back Steph Catley, Stanway inadvertently played the ball straight into the path of the United midfielder, who calmly rounded Catley before slotting the ball through goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez's legs to silence the home crowd.

Speaking after the match, Slegers acknowledged the difficulty of the situation facing her side. "It's not ideal, it's not what we wanted at all, four lost points," she said, though she remained measured about the bigger picture. "It's round three in the WSL, there are a lot of games left to play. Let's see in May, how it ends. Not converting dominance into wins, that's something we have to look at. We believe in the quality of the squad. When that starts clicking, it's going to be really good."
For Olid, the performance represented tangible progress after a difficult start to her reign at United. "After losing 5-0, the focus this week was the defensive shape, because I think the attack will come," she explained. "Implementing a new style of play needs time. But the effort, the hard work, the intensity, that can never be missing. It was so important to see that today. That is the minimum. Now, from here, little-by-little, we will improve the attacking style."
Arsenal face a testing run of fixtures next, with away trips to Chelsea and Manchester City on the horizon, while elsewhere in the WSL, Chelsea moved up to second in the table with a 2-0 win over Birmingham, and London City Lionesses climbed to third courtesy of a 4-1 victory over promoted Charlton.
