The Scottish Professional Football League has confirmed the dates and venues for the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals, with both ties set to take place at Hampden Park.
Rangers will face Aberdeen on Friday, 31 October, with kick-off scheduled for 17:30 BST. The Edinburgh derby between Hearts and Hibernian will follow two days later, on Saturday, 1 November, with a 15:00 start.
Organisers have also confirmed the allocated stands and ticket pricing for supporters of all four clubs ahead of the last-four clashes.
Rangers booked their place in the semi-finals with a commanding 3-0 victory over rivals Celtic in the quarter-final round, a result that will give Russell Martin's side plenty of confidence heading into the clash with Aberdeen. The Dons, meanwhile, progressed via a penalty shootout after their quarter-final against Kilmarnock finished level at 1-1 following normal time.
Interestingly, this will not be the first meeting between Rangers and Aberdeen this season. The two sides already met in the league, with Rangers securing a narrow 1-0 win at Pittodrie earlier in the campaign, giving the Ibrox club a slight psychological edge heading into the cup tie.
Hearts were the first team to secure their semi-final berth, thrashing hosts Stenhousemuir 3-0 in their quarter-final tie. Hibernian matched that scoreline in their own quarter-final, winning 3-0 away at Ross County to set up what promises to be a fiercely contested Edinburgh derby at the national stadium.
As with the Rangers-Aberdeen tie, this will not be the first derby meeting between Hearts and Hibernian this term. The Jambos claimed a 3-1 victory away at Easter Road in the opening Edinburgh derby of the season, a result that will add extra spice to the rematch at Hampden.
The scheduling of the semi-finals means there is a congested weekend of football north of the border, with several Scottish Premiership fixtures also taking place on 31 October. Falkirk will host Celtic, Kilmarnock take on St Johnstone, and Motherwell face St Mirren, all on the same day as the Rangers-Aberdeen semi-final.
Both semi-final winners will progress to the Premier Sports Cup final, which has been confirmed for Sunday, 13 December, once again at Hampden Park. The final will bring the curtain down on this season's League Cup campaign and will crown the first major domestic trophy winner of the Scottish football calendar.
Supporters of all four semi-finalists will now be eagerly anticipating their trip to Glasgow, with both fixtures carrying significant weight given the rivalries involved. The Rangers-Aberdeen tie pits two sides who have already shown notable form in the competition this season, while the Hearts-Hibernian derby adds an extra layer of local pride and history to proceedings.
With allocations and pricing now confirmed, attention will turn to team news and preparations as both semi-finals approach at the end of October and start of November. The winners will have just over a month to prepare for the showpiece final in mid-December, where they will have the chance to lift the first piece of major domestic silverware of the season.
