Newcastle's night ended with a small consolation as Toure, lively after his introduction, pulled one back in the 89th minute — the away side's only shot on target of the evening, according to reports.
Speaking after the match, Farke praised his side's application. "There's never a perfect performance in football but that was top class for more or less the whole game," he said. "We know we have to stay humble; we might not have the best individual quality but we can be an outstanding team."
Jaissle, meanwhile, cut a frustrated figure afterwards. "We couldn't match the intensity of Leeds and you see how difficult it can be to win a game in the Premier League," he admitted. "We'll have some ups and downs and this was a big down. A tough night."
The result marks Newcastle's first defeat to Leeds in seven meetings and represents the sternest test yet of Jaissle's young reign at St James' Park. For Leeds, the win builds on a promising start to the campaign following their return to the top flight last season, and with a trip to face Crystal Palace on the horizon, there is growing belief that Farke's rebuilt squad could be genuine contenders for a return to Europe.
