Valencia have dismissed head coach Carlos Corberan and football chief executive Ron Gourlay, the club confirmed on Sunday, as the fallout from a miserable start to the campaign finally cost both men their jobs.
The LaLiga side have managed just a single point from their opening five league matches, a run that leaves them rooted at the bottom of the table. That poor form includes a heavy 5-0 defeat to Barcelona last time out, a result that appeared to seal the fate of the club's leadership.
Pressure had been mounting on both Corberan and Gourlay for weeks, with sections of the Mestalla crowd making their frustration known during recent home fixtures. Chants calling for Corberan's departure became a regular feature of matchdays as Valencia's style of play drew growing criticism from supporters, even though results in the previous campaign had been respectable.
Corberan, 43, had taken the reins in December 2024 with Valencia languishing second from bottom of the division. He is credited with steering the club to safety and ultimately a 12th-place finish that season, before guiding them to ninth last term. Across 72 matches in charge, he recorded 28 wins and 26 losses, a win rate of just under 39 percent. His previous managerial experience included spells at West Bromwich Albion, Huddersfield Town, Olympiacos, and Cypriot clubs Doxa Katokopias and Ermis Aradippou.
Gourlay, who joined Valencia in May 2025, had repeatedly backed Corberan publicly even as results soured. The two had a prior working relationship from their time together at West Brom. Gourlay's career includes chief executive roles at Chelsea, Reading, and Saudi club Al-Ahli.
Along with the two departures, Valencia have cut ties with four members of staff who worked under Gourlay, as well as Corberan's entire coaching team.
In a statement, the club said the move was designed to usher in a fresh direction for its football operations.
