BBC Sport has unveiled an expanded programme of coverage for the upcoming Women's Super League campaign, positioning itself as the leading free-to-air destination for fans of the domestic women's game.
As the only broadcaster offering free-to-air WSL football, the BBC will screen 25 matches live across BBC television and iPlayer throughout the season. The campaign begins with a season-opening clash between Chelsea and Aston Villa, scheduled for Saturday, 5 September, with kick-off at 12:35 BST.
Among the new additions this season is The Women's Football Fallout, a segment that will air after every live BBC broadcast. The 15-minute programme promises extended reaction and analysis, featuring contributions from respected figures in the women's game, including former England internationals Fara Williams and Steph Houghton.
The broadcaster is also launching a dedicated BBC Women's Football YouTube channel, designed to serve as a central hub for original content related to the league. The channel will host full match highlights from every WSL fixture, alongside interviews, features and short-form clips aimed at keeping supporters informed throughout the campaign.
A new weekly series titled The Debrief will also debut on the YouTube channel. The show will bring together well-known pairs and friends from within the WSL for a lighter, more personal look at the relationships between players, incorporating challenges and games as part of its format.
The existing Women's Football Weekly podcast, produced by BBC Sounds, will move to a new Monday release slot, giving listeners a wrap-up of the previous weekend's action. The podcast will continue to be hosted by Ben Haines, joined by Ellen White, the all-time leading scorer for the Lionesses. Each episode will feature guest appearances from prominent names in the sport, covering match analysis, news and broader developments across the league, with no subject considered off-limits.
On the digital side, BBC Sport's website and app will continue to be updated by senior women's football news reporter Emma Sanders, who will provide ongoing coverage including transfer news, player interviews and tactical analysis throughout the season.
For the first time, the BBC will also offer supporters the ability to follow their own clubs directly through dedicated team pages on both the website and app, consolidating relevant content into a single space for fans of individual sides.
Additional coverage will extend to social media platforms, with bespoke content planned for TikTok and Instagram specifically tailored to women's football audiences. The BBC is also introducing a new fan chat page dedicated to the Women's Super League, intended to give supporters a space to discuss talking points and issues surrounding the competition beyond the matches themselves.
Taken together, the initiatives reflect a broader push by the BBC to strengthen its offering around women's football as interest in the domestic game continues to grow. Whether through live match broadcasts, highlights packages, podcasts or digital and social content, the broadcaster is aiming to provide comprehensive coverage of the WSL throughout the 2026-27 season.
With the new season set to kick off with the meeting between Chelsea and Aston Villa, fans will soon get their first look at how these new formats and features come together across BBC's various platforms.
