Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Brazilian winger Allan Elias from Palmeiras, in a transfer that could rise to £34.2m once add-ons are included. The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, becoming the latest recruit in what has been an eventful summer of business for the Premier League club.
The fee is structured as an initial £32m payment, with a further £2.2m dependent on performance-related clauses. Allan arrives having come through Palmeiras' youth academy, where he developed into a regular first-team performer on the right flank. Across 96 appearances in all competitions for the Brazilian giants, he contributed nine goals and 12 assists, numbers that helped convince City's recruitment team he was ready for a step up to one of Europe's elite leagues.
His arrival effectively fills the void left by fellow Brazilian Savio, who departed for Tottenham Hotspur in a £75m deal just days earlier. City appear to have moved quickly to ensure they did not lose depth or quality out wide following that sale.
Speaking after putting the finishing touches to his move, Allan expressed his excitement at joining a club with City's pedigree. "This is a surreal moment for me. Manchester City, with everything they have won over the past 15 years, are one of the most attractive clubs in the world for players," he said. "To be able to sit here today and say I have joined them is the proudest moment of my life."
The winger also paid tribute to his boyhood club, adding: "I love Palmeiras and always will - but the decision to come to City was an easy one. I want to be the best footballer I can be and the conversations I've had with the people at City so far has convinced me there isn't a better place for me to fulfil my ambitions."
Allan's arrival is the third major addition to Enzo Maresca's squad this summer, following the club-record acquisitions of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m and Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille for £85.6m. In total, City have now spent in excess of £230m strengthening their squad, underlining their ambition to remain competitive on multiple fronts.
The club's transfer activity has not been limited to incoming deals, however. City have also been active in offloading players, generating more than £286m in sales this window. Among the most notable departures was Rodri, the reigning World Cup Golden Ball winner, who completed a £65m switch to Barcelona. Tijani Reijnders also left the club, joining Saudi side Al-Qadsiah for £52m, while Nico Gonzalez and goalkeeper James Trafford both moved on for significant fees. Additionally, Omar Marmoush's loan spell at Tottenham carries an obligation for the north London club to sign him permanently next summer for £60m.
Despite the heavy outgoings, City's business is not expected to stop with Allan's arrival. The club remains in discussions with Liverpool over a possible deal for Dutch forward Cody Gakpo, while there is also reported interest in bringing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez to the Etihad before the transfer window closes.
With Maresca continuing to reshape the squad following a summer of major turnover, City's supporters will be hopeful that Allan can quickly adapt to the demands of English football and provide the kind of width and creativity that made him such a key figure at Palmeiras.
