Chelsea have confirmed a new front-of-shirt partnership with Circle Internet Group, Inc., with the deal set to be showcased for the first time in Saturday's Premier League fixture against Brighton at Stamford Bridge.
The west London club announced the tie-up on Friday, naming the American financial technology firm as their new principal partner and shirt sponsor for the 2026/27 campaign. Under the agreement, Circle and its USDC stablecoin brand will appear across shirts worn by Chelsea's men's, women's and academy teams, with the men's side under head coach Xabi Alonso being the first to wear the new branding in competitive action.
The words "USDC by Circle" will be displayed in gold text on the front of Chelsea's blue home kit, a colour choice designed to complement the club crest, the Nike logo, and the Club World Cup winners' badge that continues to feature on the shirt this season.
Circle, founded in New York in 2013 by Jeremy Allaire and Sean Neville, operates as an internet-based financial platform and is the issuer of USDC, a cryptocurrency stablecoin. In explaining the rationale behind the agreement, which the club described as a "landmark partnership," Chelsea pointed to the growing role of digital currencies in the global economy.
"The partnership comes at a pivotal moment for the world. Stablecoins are moving from early adoption toward the mainstream, creating an unprecedented opportunity to make money as open, accessible, and useful as the internet itself," the club said in its official statement.
Chelsea added that such technology could lower the barriers to participating in financial systems worldwide: "By reducing the cost and friction of moving value, they can broaden participation in the global economy and unlock greater opportunity for people everywhere. Bringing USDC to one of sport's biggest global stages reflects the scale and ambition of this opportunity."
The statement also detailed Circle's background and the function of its flagship product, describing the company as "a pioneer in digital assets" that is "helping build the financial system for the internet," with USDC positioned as "the world's leading regulated stablecoin" that allows for the transfer of a "trusted digital dollar" around the globe with "internet speed and 24/7 availability."
Chelsea president Jason Gannon expressed enthusiasm about what the alliance could mean for the club's long-term ambitions. "This partnership with Circle positions Chelsea at the forefront of football's digital evolution," Gannon said. "We are two organisations fixated by the future and are relentlessly innovating to be in the best position possible for the long-term. We look forward to beginning our journey with Circle – to introduce Circle to the Chelsea family and continue enhancing how we operate."
The move ends a period in which Chelsea competed without a permanent shirt sponsor. The club had been operating on a short-term arrangement with British artificial intelligence firm IFS, which expired at the close of last season. Before that, Chelsea had similarly brief sponsorship agreements with Emirati property developer DAMAC and American sports technology company Infinite Athlete, following the conclusion of their long-standing partnership with telecommunications company Three back in 2023.
With the Circle and USDC branding now set to feature prominently on Chelsea's kits, the club appears to be positioning itself alongside a sector experiencing rapid growth in global finance, betting that the association will resonate both commercially and symbolically as digital currencies edge closer to mainstream acceptance.
