Nottingham Forest have struck an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign right-back Daniel Munoz in a deal worth a minimum of £22 million, with the Colombia international set to undergo a medical before completing his switch to the City Ground.
The move brings Munoz back together with Forest manager Oliver Glasner, who managed the 30-year-old during a productive spell at Selhurst Park that included FA Cup and UEFA Conference League triumphs in consecutive campaigns. Glasner left Palace at the end of his contract in the summer before taking charge at Forest, and he has since pushed to reunite with a player he considers central to that success.
Negotiations between the two clubs had been progressing for several days but gathered pace following Palace's heavy 4-1 home defeat to Manchester City on Friday. Munoz was named among the substitutes for that match but did not feature, with Sage instead deploying summer signing Anan Khalaili at right wing-back within his 3-4-2-1 setup. The Israel international, recruited from Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, is expected to fill the void left by Munoz's departure going forward.
Munoz arrived at Palace from Belgian outfit Genk in 2024 and quickly established himself as one of the squad's most reliable performers, making 109 appearances and contributing 11 goals during his time in south London. He started in Palace's opening-day 2-0 Premier League defeat at Everton this season before being left out of the matchday impact against City.
With just under two years remaining on his existing contract, Palace had signalled a willingness to let the defender leave this summer, paving the way for Forest to conclude the transfer. Glasner's current side drew 2-2 away at Liverpool on Saturday, a result that came in the midst of the negotiations over his former player.
Elsewhere in Palace's business, forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, who had been seeking an exit from Selhurst Park, now appears likely to remain for the time being after suffering a hamstring injury expected to keep him sidelined for up to a month.
Forest's pursuit of Munoz is part of a broader summer recruitment push under Glasner. The club have also lodged an ambitious offer for Everton's teenage midfielder Harrison Armstrong, reportedly worth £40 million plus a potential sell-on clause, underlining the scale of their ambitions this transfer window. Reports also indicate Forest have made background checks on a Senegalese international, though no formal talks between clubs have yet begun over that potential deal.
The signing of Munoz represents a significant coup for Forest, bringing in a player with proven top-flight pedigree and major trophy-winning experience to bolster their defensive options as they look to build on last season's progress under Glasner's guidance.
