Tottenham Close In on Manchester City's Marmoush as Summer Spending Nears £300m

Tottenham Hotspur are edging closer to a deal for Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, with discussions between the two clubs reportedly advancing, though no formal agreement has been struck yet. Should the move go through, the Egypt international would become the latest name added to Roberto De Zerbi's rebuilt squad, pushing the north London club's summer outlay beyond the £300m mark.

Spurs have already been busy in the transfer market, committing £229.5m to bring in centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke along with midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. That spree continued on Friday with confirmation of a £75m agreement to sign Manchester City winger Savinho, bolstering an attacking unit that has looked in need of reinforcement. Concerns over Dominic Solanke's fitness—he has struggled with injuries for the past year and a half—and Richarlison entering the final year of his contract appear to be driving factors behind the club's pursuit of fresh attacking options.

Marmoush arrived at City in January 2025 for £59m following a breakout campaign at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 20 goals and provided 13 assists in 26 matches before his move, including 15 Bundesliga goals from an expected-goals tally of just 8.9. He also became the first player in Europe's top five leagues to score direct free-kicks in three straight competitive matches since Lionel Messi in 2019.

His start at the Etihad was promising—he scored a hat-trick against Newcastle, netted the winning goal in an FA Cup quarter-final at Bournemouth, and struck a long-range effort against the same side that was later voted the Premier League's goal of the season. However, his City career has also included a notable low point: missing a penalty in the 2025 FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace after being handed spot-kick duties by Erling Haaland.

Former City defender Nedum Onuoha insists that moment shouldn't overshadow Marmoush's overall contribution.
