Kane Ready to Discuss Bayern Munich Extension as Contract Enters Final Year

Harry Kane has confirmed he is willing to sit down with Bayern Munich officials to discuss a new contract, with the England captain now entering the last 12 months of his current deal at the Bundesliga champions.

The 33-year-old striker joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023 in an £86.4 million transfer, signing a four-year contract at the time. With that agreement now approaching its final season, talks over an extension are expected to begin imminently.

Speaking in a video broadcast by German outlet Kicker, Kane explained that both parties had already agreed on a timeline for negotiations. "We obviously said we wanted to talk after the World Cup and after my holiday. So I'm not sure exactly when, but they'll start this week, next week… we'll start those talks," he said.

The forward described the mood surrounding the discussions as relaxed on both sides, despite the contract situation becoming more pressing. "Like I've said before, we're calm, I think they're calm with the situation," Kane added. "Obviously now is the time to start talking, because there's only a year left. That's important. But both sides are relaxed, and I'm pretty sure there'll be some talks this week or next week."

Kane made his return to Bayern's squad ahead of Saturday's German Supercup meeting with Borussia Dortmund, arriving back at the club following a summer that saw him extend his standing as one of the most prolific strikers of his generation on the international stage.

During this year's World Cup in North America, Kane became England's all-time leading scorer at the tournament, netting 14 goals in 18 appearances to eclipse Gary Lineker's previous record of 10. Despite his individual exploits, England's campaign ended in disappointment as the Three Lions were eliminated in the semi-finals following a defeat to Argentina.

At club level, however, Kane's form remained exceptional. He scored 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions for Bayern last season, claiming the Bundesliga's top scorer award for a third consecutive year and playing a central role in the club's domestic title triumph.

Given his prolific output, Kane was also asked about his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or, an honour that has so far eluded him despite his consistent goal-scoring record at the highest level. While acknowledging the significance of the award, he was careful to downplay its importance in his current thinking.

"The Ballon d'Or is as big as it gets, from an individual point of view," Kane said. "I know I had a great season last season, but the focus is on this new season."

He stressed that the outcome was ultimately out of his hands. "The Ballon d'Or's not in my hands," he continued. "I've done what I can do in terms of putting in the performances. It's now down to votes and other people and the media – stuff I can't control – so we'll see what happens."

Kane admitted that winning the prize would be a special achievement, but insisted it was not something occupying his thoughts as the new season gets underway. "Obviously, it would be amazing if it was to happen. But ultimately, it's still two or three months away before that's decided so it's not something that's at the front of my mind right now," he said.

With Bayern eager to build on last season's domestic dominance and Kane keen to continue his prolific run in Bavaria, both club and player appear aligned in their intention to extend their partnership beyond the current deal.
